What Is Reiki Healing

What is Reiki?

“Reiki” (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy and is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing, This tradition was founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication.

We live in a world of energy that nourishes and maintains all living things. When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us, and we experience a sense of well-being.

Reiki treatment is a process that anyone can enjoy in the normal course of their life. Reiki can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatment and often helps to provide emotional support during recovery.

Reiki Treatment

The method of receiving Reiki is simple. The recipient remains clothed and lies on a couch or sits on a chair and relaxes. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body. There is no massage or manipulation. The whole person is treated rather than specific areas. Sessions can take 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the client’s needs.

Reiki practitioners are not trained in diagnosis and will not predict any specific outcome from treatment. If people are concerned about their symptoms they should see a doctor.

What do Reiki treatments feel like?

Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on their individual needs at the time.

Clients may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment. Benefits reported by recipients include deep relaxation promoting a calm, peaceful sense of well-being on all levels. Some people feel sensations of heat, tingling, or experience seeing colours, whilst others can have an emotional response, indicating that shifts are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored.

How much Reiki would I need?

A single session may be sufficient, but it is best to discuss this with your practitioner. For instance, if you have long standing emotional or spiritual issues, a series of sessions may be beneficial. In general, if you find that helpful changes are taking place, it is a good idea to continue treatment.

Reiki For Children & Teenagers

Benefits of Reiki for Children and Teenagers

Less likely to show signs of excitability and depression
Improves concentration, enhances relaxation and sleep
Calms and promotes balance, enhances self esteem

When using Reiki with children the session needs to be structured differently as their concentration span is much shorter, and as their channels are usually much clearer they generally need less time.

Children are incredibly perceptive. They can pick up on changes within their environments and individuals very easily. If you are worrying, so are they.

Before booking Reiki sessions for your child/young adult, you need to consider the following:-

Healing will only take place if the child is happy to accept it.

All children under 16 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian during treatment. At no time are they to be left alone with a Reiki Practitioner. This complies with Reiki Federation Guidelines as well as insurance requirements and protects both the child and the Reiki Practitioner.

Consent for a healing session is needed by both parent/guardian and child. I find it reassures both parent and young adult, enabling a bond to be built upon between yourself and your child. You both have the opportunity to see exactly what a treatment entails.

Children are extremely sensitive to the atmosphere and can frequently amaze you by their accurate reading of the energies that eddy around them. One would often find a child becoming restless and fearful when someone in the room is agitated or angry.

Children do not hesitate to call some one "bad" when they sense the negative energy in them. They react positively to those who love them and turn away from those who do not like children or are uneasy with them.

When they enter in a « Reiki room », they immediately sense the positive loving energy that is prevalent there and react favorably to it. They relax and are willing to explore with you this feeling of peacefulness that is generated,

Giving Reiki treatment to a child has a very different feel from giving Reiki to an adult. The energy body of a healthy child is more attuned to the physical body and one can feel the energy going through the entire body in one sweep. Children who are ill or may have mentally imbalanced diagnosis feel more comfortable and relaxed.

What Are Crystals?

Crystals take millions of years to form underground. The way crystals are formed (by repeating chemical structures) is believed by some to imbue them with the ability to hold energies.

There are different types of crystals, depending on the type of mineral it’s made from and the conditions it grows in. These differences are thought to change the effect the crystal has energetically.

How Does Crystal Healing Work

Crystal healing is an energy-based system. This means it is based on the belief that we are all made up of different energies and that when this becomes stagnant, unbalanced or blocked, it can cause illness. The premise is that crystals help unblock, balance and direct energy where it is most needed, gently supporting the body to heal in a therapeutic way.

Different types of crystals are thought to have different properties and energies. Just holding and being near these crystals is therefore thought to affect our own energies on a physical, spiritual and emotional level.

Crystal healers have extensive knowledge of the different stones and how they affect us, and are able to use them in healing sessions. There are several different ways this can be done, but the most common is to have the client lie down and place the crystals on or around them in a specific way.

The types of crystals used and the positioning of them will depend on what the client is seeking support for. This could range from a physical concern such as headaches or stress, to more emotional or spiritual concerns.

What To Expect During A Crystal Healing Treatment

The idea of crystal healing may sound far fetched, but if you are open and willing to explore the world of energy healing, this is a wonderful place to start. It can also help to know what to expect before you book a session.

Sessions will be tailored to you and will differ depending on the nature of your concern. Your session will begin with a consultation. This is when you speak with your crystal therapist about what’s brought you to them and what you’re hoping for.

Your therapist will ask a number of questions; crystal healing is a holistic approach, meaning it looks at all aspects of health (physical, mental and spiritual) and so your therapist will want to get a full picture.

Once you have had your consultation, your therapist will know what approach will work best for you, which crystals to use and how to place them. You will be made comfortable and asked to lie down (fully clothed) on a couch.

When you are relaxed with your eyes closed, your therapist will begin placing crystals on and around your body. Sometimes the therapist will use a dowsing pendulum to help them determine where the crystals should go.

The crystals will be left in place for a certain amount of time (this will depend on your circumstances but can be anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour). During this time you are encouraged to breathe deeply and simply relax. Your therapist may add or remove crystals during the session.

Some people report feeling sensations (a warmth or tingle) while others feel nothing. Don’t worry if you don’t feel anything, this doesn’t mean your energies haven’t been affected.

When the session is over, your therapist will remove the crystals and you’ll be encouraged to ground yourself in your body by becoming aware of your surroundings and physical sensations.

Some people say they feel a difference in themselves immediately, for others it takes longer for the healing to take effect.

You may be recommended a number of treatments and often people choose to have ongoing treatments to support their overall health.

As the healing takes place, you may experience an energetic detox, when negative energy quickly leaves your body. This can lead to difficult emotions being brought to the surface.

Crystal Healing Benefits

Crystal healing is a complementary and natural approach, meaning it can be used alongside traditional medicine and has no negative side-effects.

The benefits of crystal healing are varied and take place on several different levels.

Perhaps the most common benefit reported is the deep relaxation that takes place during a session. This type of relaxation helps aid general well-being and is particularly useful when treating stress and anxiety. It can also help ease tense muscles which can help improve physical pain and sleeping problems.

On an emotional and spiritual level, crystals can help enhance self-esteem, encourage clarity and inspire a sense of peace and centredness.

Anyone can enjoy these benefits, however if you are sceptical about the process you will naturally close yourself off. Because of this, having an open mind and no preconceptions or assumptions is key.
