What Is Reiki Healing
What is Reiki?
“Reiki” (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy and is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing, This tradition was founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication.
We live in a world of energy that nourishes and maintains all living things. When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us, and we experience a sense of well-being.
Reiki treatment is a process that anyone can enjoy in the normal course of their life. Reiki can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatment and often helps to provide emotional support during recovery.
The method of receiving Reiki is simple. The recipient remains clothed and lies on a couch or sits on a chair and relaxes. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body. There is no massage or manipulation. The whole person is treated rather than specific areas. Sessions can take 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the client’s needs.
Reiki practitioners are not trained in diagnosis and will not predict any specific outcome from treatment. If people are concerned about their symptoms they should see a doctor.
What do Reiki treatments feel like?
Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on their individual needs at the time.
Clients may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment. Benefits reported by recipients include deep relaxation promoting a calm, peaceful sense of well-being on all levels. Some people feel sensations of heat, tingling, or experience seeing colours, whilst others can have an emotional response, indicating that shifts are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored.
How much Reiki would I need?
A single session may be sufficient, but it is best to discuss this with your practitioner. For instance, if you have long standing emotional or spiritual issues, a series of sessions may be beneficial. In general, if you find that helpful changes are taking place, it is a good idea to continue treatment.

Because Reiki practice is balancing at every level, it can help anyone who receives a treatment.
If you are tired, you’ll feel refreshed. If you are anxious, you’ll feel serene. If you are distressed, you’ll feel comforted.
Instead of feeling overwhelmed, you will discover renewed clarity and purpose.
These subjective changes combine with the physical changes often associated with deep relaxation, such as a slower heart rate and easier breathing.
Reiki For Children & Teenagers
Benefits of Reiki for Children and Teenagers
Less likely to show signs of excitability and depression
Improves concentration, enhances relaxation and sleep
Calms and promotes balance, enhances self esteem
When using Reiki with children the session needs to be structured differently as their concentration span is much shorter, and as their channels are usually much clearer they generally need less time.
Children are incredibly perceptive. They can pick up on changes within their environments and individuals very easily. If you are worrying, so are they.
Before booking Reiki sessions for your child/young adult, you need to consider the following:-
Healing will only take place if the child is happy to accept it.
All children under 16 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian during treatment. At no time are they to be left alone with a Reiki Practitioner. This complies with Reiki Federation Guidelines as well as insurance requirements and protects both the child and the Reiki Practitioner.
Consent for a healing session is needed by both parent/guardian and child. I find it reassures both parent and young adult, enabling a bond to be built upon between yourself and your child. You both have the opportunity to see exactly what a treatment entails.
Children are extremely sensitive to the atmosphere and can frequently amaze you by their accurate reading of the energies that eddy around them. One would often find a child becoming restless and fearful when someone in the room is agitated or angry.
Children do not hesitate to call some one "bad" when they sense the negative energy in them. They react positively to those who love them and turn away from those who do not like children or are uneasy with them.
When they enter in a « Reiki room », they immediately sense the positive loving energy that is prevalent there and react favorably to it. They relax and are willing to explore with you this feeling of peacefulness that is generated,
Giving Reiki treatment to a child has a very different feel from giving Reiki to an adult. The energy body of a healthy child is more attuned to the physical body and one can feel the energy going through the entire body in one sweep. Children who are ill or may have mentally imbalanced diagnosis feel more comfortable and relaxed.
